Andrew, born in 1990 in Dar es Salaam, was a humble man with a passion for the hotel industry and a green thumb that earned him admiration from everyone around him. His dream was to start his own restaurant, which drove him to attend college during the day and work as a waiter at night in Cidade de Goa, gaining as much experience as he could. In pursuit of this dream, he even worked in Muscat for a while, before returning to Goa and marrying his wife Cerolina, a banker by profession and a chef by passion. Andrew was no stranger to hard work and dedication, as evidenced by the various jobs he took on to save up for his big dream. From being a fridge repairer to a well digger, a newspaper delivery boy to a taxi driver, he did it all with one goal in mind. He was also a major socialist, actively involved in many organizations like Rotary Club, he also worked as a manager in various restaurants to build up his Career.
In 1993, with the unwavering support of his wife Cerolina and the guidance of his aunt “Ti Aninha.”, Andrew finally fulfilled his dream of opening his own restaurant. A Lua Merces boasted just six tables, but Andrew poured his heart and soul into making it a success. Over the years, he expanded his business to include other locations such as Hotel Campal, Clube Tennis de Gasper dias, Clube Vasco de Gama, and Quatro. He also opened two more restaurants of his own, Alua Sangolda (now Yaki Zushi) and A Lua Verna.
Andrew’s blessings came in the form of his children – Amory and Clarissa – who have made him proud with their professional achievements. Amory is a chef who owns and manages his own restaurant, yaki Zushi, as well as the popular eatery A Lua Verna. Meanwhile, Clarissa is a highly skilled doctor who also has a passion for entrepreneurship. Despite Andrew’s passing in 2017, his legacy and memories live on through his family who strive to carry on his name with utmost dedication.
